Trieste & Rijeka
Both because of geography and the eternal importance of trade, these two cities have a feeling of transience but they are mirrors to those who needed their seaboard. Trieste offers the opportunity to feel both Italian and Austrian at the same time and Rijeka (Fiume) was an important port for the British Grand Tourist and much remains of its Austro Hungarian past as with Trieste.
